PAYATRADER BRINGS AFFORDABLE “PAY AS YOU GO” CARD ACCEPTANCE SERVICES TO SMALL BUSINESSES

LONDON, 27th March, 2012 – Payatrader.com today announces its innovative, low cost card processing solution specifically designed for the micro and small business market. This follows a highly successful pilot across a broad range of trades, including builders, carpet cleaners, locksmiths, pest control, window cleaners, mobile mechanics and decorators.

Aimed at small and sole traders, including the professions, Payatrader enables these previously underserviced groups to accept card payments on a “Pay As You Go” basis, and at the same time manages to give small businesses the rich multi-channel payment functionality that would be expected by larger retailers.

Bill Thomson, Managing Director and Co Founder of Payatrader, developed Payatrader to address a gap in the market for a “low cost, no financial commitment” card acceptance service. Until now, accepting card payments has not been economically attractive for small traders because the associated monthly and minimum usage charges were disproportionate to the small trader’s volume of transactions. This has meant that these groups, typically card users as consumers, have had to rely on payment by cheque or cash in their businesses – and deal with problems such as delayed, missing and failed payments.

At just £99 to join, Payatrader is feature rich yet simple to use. It enables businesses to accept immediate payments via its dot.mobi service, take payments online, and take payments over the telephone using a virtual terminal – a service that can also be used to build a customer email database so traders can email future payment requests to their regular customers.

Payatrader will also appeal to those renting a traditional terminal, to accept their telephone and online payments, using the free virtual terminal and website payment buttons offered with the service.  Russ Chad of ProSteam UK, said “I joined because Payatrader offered excellent value for money, without the usual monthly charges. It’s also convenient for customers and many are impressed by the dot.mobi service and the emailed receipt”

With more exciting developments in the pipeline and plans to extend its services and functionality still further, Payatrader is set to challenge the current paradigm in the micro and small business market

  1. Payatrader was created by a team of payments experts led by Bill Thomson. Thomson, a payments entrepreneur and founder of the first agnostic on-line PSP, Netbanx, was subsequently MD of Barclaycard Business and has over 17 years of experience in card payments.
  2. Payatrader’s user base has grown mostly by word of mouth and since introduction there have been a number of service enhancements, including payment using an iPad, email payment requests and a customer database facility.
  3. Small traders do not need a separate merchant services account with Payatrader, making it simple to set up. Consumers have the option to pay online at a traders web site or at Payatrader.com, by mobile, by telephone direct to the trader or via the Payatrader 24/7 contact centre, and by email where they have been sent an ePayment Request. There are no monthly or other recurring charges – traders just pay when the service is used, 2.3% to 2.95% based on weekly card turnover.
  4. Payatrader, operated by Acceptacard Ltd, is part of a wider “Paya” portfolio that also includes Payataxi (live) and Payalandlord (in development) etc.
  5. The company goal is to deliver affordable card acceptance to the 1 million underserved small businesses with the rich payment functionality that would be demanded by large retailers, and give consumers the ability to pay traders and small businesses by card – as is normal with larger businesses.
